Kind of straight from inward, this shape looks a lot of like broad base on the feet. This is the classic kolhapuri chappal. Well known in kolhapuri leather craft world for its unique design.
It is Said that It is called "senapati kolhapuri chappal" because of its use by the head of the army which is Senapati.
Specially designed by the craftsmen of Kapashi (village near Kolhapur) with its unique shape it comes in a variation like single tali(layer), double tali, and so on.

Kapashi craftsmen are known for their detailed work and dedication in leather craft. They are making leather footwear for generations now with most traditional ways. The art has been passed to next generation from the older one and it evolves in such transition albeit maintaining ethnicity of the craft. Ladies of the village are the experts in detailing work on kolhapuri leather craft. Their expertise takes the craft to next level with skills and detailing, be it stitching chappal or crafting a leather Veni (braids) for the center belt of Senapati Kolhapuri Chappal. This Veni is very unique and as thin as a single strand of hair which requires a lot of detail and skill. Same goes for designing bottom of this ethnic craft.
