कोल्हापुरी चपलेच्या प्रत्येक वळणात आपल्या मातीचा स्वभाव दिसतो. कातड्याचा अस्सल स्पर्श, हातांनी घडवलेली नक्षी आणि काम चोख व्हावं म्हणून घेतलेली मेहनत—हा वारसा पिढ्यान्‌पिढ्या जपला गेला आहे.
जगाला वेग हवा होता. यंत्रांतून एकसारख्या वस्तू बाहेर पडू लागल्या. त्या घाईत हातांनी घडणाऱ्या कामाची किंमत झाकोळत होती. त्यासोबत कारागिरांच्या हातात साठलेलं पिढ्यांचं शहाणपणही हरवून जाण्याची भीती होती.
याच जाणिवेतून Vhaan ची सुरुवात झाली. आपल्या मातीची ही कला आजही जगावी, उद्याही फुलावी आणि तिला घडवणाऱ्या हातांना मान मिळावा, एवढीच मनापासूनची इच्छा.

हे हात चपला घडवतात; आणि परंपरेला उद्याचा दिवस देतात.
कोल्हापूर जिल्ह्यातल्या कारागिरांच्या हातांत कातडं अलगद स्थिरावतं. सुरा फिरतो, पट्टी तयार होते, वेणी गुंफली जाते. मग एकामागून एक टाके पडतात—आणि हळूहळू एका जोडीला रूप येतं.
कुठे किती दाब द्यायचा, कातडं कसं वळवायचं, टाका किती घट्ट घ्यायचा—यामागे असते पिढ्यांची शिकवण आणि रोजच्या मेहनतीतून तयार झालेली हाताची जाण. त्या सहज हालचालींत वर्षानुवर्षांचं कसब दडलेलं असतं.

Vhaan चे संस्थापक भूषण कांबळे यांनी या कलेसाठी ऑनलाइन जगात नवी वाट खुली केली. कोल्हापुरी चपलांना ऑनलाइन आणण्याच्या या पुढाकारातून कारागीर आणि त्यांच्या कामाची कदर करणारी माणसं अधिक जवळ आली.
छोट्याशा पडद्यावर दिसणारी एक जोडी दूरवरच्या माणसाला कोल्हापूरच्या कलेशी जोडू लागली. एखादी ऑर्डर आली की, आपल्या मातीची गोष्ट एका नव्या घराच्या दिशेने निघाली.
गोष्ट पोहोचवायला तंत्रज्ञानाची साथ मिळाली. ती घडवण्याची जागा मात्र तीच राहिली—कारागिरांच्या कुशल हातांत.
प्रत्येक पाऊल एक गोष्ट सांगतं.
